Benadryl is a medicine that belong to an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy, hay fever and the common cold. These symptoms include rash, itching, watery eyes, itchy eyes/nose/throat, cough, runny nose and sneezing. This medicine is also recommended for treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Benadryl is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat mild forms of Parkinson’s disease. It can be used for other purpose as directed by the doctor or health care professional.
This medication works by blocking a certain natural substance which is acalled as histamine, that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Its drying effects on such symptoms as watery eyes and runny nose are caused by blocking another natural substance made by your body (acetylcholine).
Benadryl is an over the counter medicine that does not require any prescription. Benadryl is used for various allergies like cough, blocked or runny nose, skin rash, itching, sneezing. It works as an antihistamine. It interferes with histamine effects at histamine1-receptor sites. Diphenhydramine HCl 25 mg is the main ingredient of this medicine.
