How To Get Rid Of A Cold Sore Fast-Is Yesterday Fast Enough?

Cold sores are embarassing and painful. Once you get one, you want to get rid of it as soon as possible. After a lot of research, I found sveral methods of…

When I was fifteen, I had my first and only cold sore. I was a teenager at the time and for me the world had just ended. It wasn’t really all that big, but it was definitely in a bad spot. When you meet people, your face is the first thing they see. I knew that in my case my cold sore would be the first thing they would see. The first thing I thought of was that the kids at school would have a field day at my expense so I wanted to know how to get rid of a cold sore fast.

If it had just been a zit; I could have shaved it off like I usually did, but this thing was big and it was on my lip so I couldn’t do that.

I asked my mother what I should do, but she had no idea. My mom got out the trusty Dr. Spock book (her Bible) and announced that I had a cold sore.

The only thing even close to medicine that we had in the house for lips was Vaseline so that was what I used. I turns out that this is exactly what your supposed to do to keep the virus from spreading.

I wanted to be as prepared as possible in case someone in my family gets a cold sore so I’ve used my computer to find out how to get rid of a cold sore fast.

Prescription Drugs

If you want to, you can go to your doctor and get a prescription. I’m sure that every doctor has a favorite drug so I won’t even try to guess them here.

One thing you have to remember whenever dealing with a medical problem is that our health care system is set up as a for profit system. That prescription that your doctor wrote for you might have more to do with the free trip he’ll win if he writes a lot of prescriptions, than your problem. In other words, you could be in store for some dangerous side effects.

Over The Counter Drugs Probably one of the most popular options for people who want to self medicate is the over the counter market. Many people think that just because a drug has FDA approval for over the counter use, it must be perfectly safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. Drug companies put an intensive amount of pressure on the FDA to approve their drugs for over the counter sale.

You may have used them for years, so your comfortable with an over the counter medication. In that case, I would recommend that you try Abreva.

I saw Abreva mentioned in a lot of forums, It usually got positive reviews. The curious thing though was that some say it didn’t do much for them at all.

There is an alternative to just going to the doctor and that’s the natural approach. Going to the doctor is expensive. I think I paid about $75.00 for a visit the last time. That’s ridiculous. The side effects of drugs scare me too.

In all of my research the treatment that almost everyone recommended was the application of ice. This would be considered an “alternative” treatment by the medical establishment. I have the details here:

If you’ve ever had a cold sore before, then you know what it feels like when one is coming on. This is when you should start using ice. Holding the ice against the skin for too long will actually cause a lot of pain. I’m not advocating holding it there all day. Just hold it there until you feel the skin going numb. The virus that causes cold sores, hates the cold so the idea is to create an environment that the virus will try to get away from.

Hopefully, you have tea in the house. If you do, stick one of the tea bags in the freezer and leave it there. The next time you feel a cold sore coming on, hold a frozen tea bag on your skin instead of the ice.

An alternative to ice is a frozen teabag. This may sound crazy, but a frozen teabag should work even better than ice because tea contains a chemical that helps suppress the virus.

The next treatment I’m going to talk about involves tea tree oil.

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil)

Before antibiotics were around, tea tree oil had many uses as a medicine. It’s been proven to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.

Let’s say that you didn’t use ice in time or maybe it doesn’t work for you, dab tea tree oil onto the affected area. Apply the oil to the affected area twice daily and the sore will go away presently.

A lot of people think that just because a medicine is natural, it doesn’t have any side effects. That’s simply not true. Tea Tree Oil can have adverse effects on the skin so you only use a little until you know how your body will react.

As I said before, I did a lot of research into how to get rid of a cold sore fast and these methods seem to work for the most people so good luck.

Disclaimer: Anytime that you are going to treat a medical problem, you should talk to your doctor first. Since I am not a doctor, but I’m merely reporting on what I have found through research, please consult your doctor before beginning any of the treatments that I have talked about.
